This song began as an idea I was playing around with while testing out TC Helicon harmonizer device I'd acquired around 2012. I was in my studio in our house in Redwood City, CA, just strumming and playing with feels, chords and melodies, playing with the harmonies that the device produced. I was playing a ¾ feel and the melody and the last words of the chorus just sort of happened - I'm gone, and I ain't comin' back. I made a scratch recording on my iPhone and later dumped it into iTunes where it sat until spring 2025.  That's when I discovered Suno.com.  When I found out I could upload a snippet and have Suno crank out what sounded like a finished piece of music, even with just partial lyrics, I got inspired to just keep uploading snippet after snippet. There were plenty that I'd dumped into iTunes. Thanks to Suno, within a few months I had over 25 songs in various stages of completion and I was thrilled to finally be working on long-neglected fragments and finishing them. It was so inspiring to hear what my ideas could sound like in finished form, in various styles. There was a sense of legitimacy imparted when I heard these songs played back to me in a radio-ready state. It's hard to describe the feeling. We hear so many fine productions streamed to us day after day, and when you have a rough idea that you banged out late one night on acoustic guitar, played and sung into an iPhone, even though you may hear something pretty cool in your head, the scratch recording isn't inspiring at all. In fact, it's often quite the opposite.

In May of 2026 I decided that I was going to stop using AI generated music in my productions and go back to the lengthier process of producing songs using Band-in-a-Box. and Logic Pro. It doesn't carry the instant gratification of AI generation but the quality is excellent, using high quality digital audio tracks recorded by human musicians and combined with the Band In A Box styles to produce legitimate royalty-free backing tracks. This song represents my first such production since turning my back on AI music generation software.

Ain't Comin' Back

Same old mistakes, but this time I’m leaving, not a whole lot left to say,
I no longer fear, the postpartum grieving, enough, to compel me to stay

We tried again, yeah, we really tried, but we just create too much flak,
We can’t make it work, too often we’ve cried, so I’m gone, and I ain’t comin’ back

We wrote all those scenes we can never retract, it’s curtains, on our final act
I’ll say my last lines, my bags are all packed, then I’m gone, and I ain’t comin’ back

Impossible now, for us to revive, the flame that was burning so bright,
It fluttered and flared, came briefly alive, then finally sputtered and died

I’ll miss your laugh, the touch of your hair,  your smile… and the way your eyes shine,
The sound of your voice, your scent in the air, the feel of your skin next to mine

We wrote all those scenes we can never retract, it’s curtains, on our final act
I’ll say my last lines, my bags are all packed, then I’m gone, and I ain’t comin’ back

[Solo] (Instrumental - Verse Form))

[Solo] (instrumental - Bridge Form)

It’s finally clear, love isn’t enough, to overcome all our dysfunctional stuff,
I can’t stick around, just hoping we’ll mend, truth finally leads to the end

I hope we find, some true peace of mind, each going our own separate way,
To leave us behind, in the long run is kind, and tomorrow will be a new day

We wrote all those scenes we can never retract, it’s curtains, on our final act
I’ve said my last lines, my bags are all packed, now I’m gone, and I ain’t comin’ back

We wrote all those scenes we can never retract, it’s curtains, on our final act
I’ve said my last lines, my bags are all packed, now I’m gone, and I ain’t comin’ back

Yeah, I’m gone, and I ain’t comin' back,
Yeah, I’m gone, and I ain’t comin' back,

(Instrumental - Verse Form)
