This idea originated around 1979-80 but didn't get finished at that time. Recently I've been revisiting a number of song ideas from that era and working to finish them. I can remember sitting in the back yard of our rental house in Redwood City, CA with my guitar and playing with this idea. The lyrics from that time were skeleton, just a bunch of sketches but I remembered the feeling pretty vividly so it was a pretty smooth process to find backing tracks that fit the mood I was going for. Then it was just a matter of working the process for a month or so.
Lazy River

Drifting along this. . . lazy river, letting my thoughts go where they will
Rest my weary bones a while, lay around til I get my fill
Floating freely, it’s a. . . perfect day
Got no worries getting. . . in my way
River’s taking me just. . . where it may
I let it carry me away, carry me away
Drifting along this . . . lazy river, think I’ll lay around all day
Ain’t afraid of getting nothing done, don’t feel like working anyway
I don’t bother trying’ to . . . understand
In no hurry cause I’ve... got no plan
I let the river tell me... where I am
I don’t need no helping hand, no helping hand
Drifting along this… lazy river, kicking back to watch the clouds float by
Willows swaying in a gentle breeze, silhouettes against the sky
Instrumental V & CH
Drifting and drifting… aimlessly, lazing and grazing… shamelessly
Floating on a river of… reverie, just as happy as can be . . . yeah, yeah
Drifting along this… lazy river, Time like molasses flowing oh so slow
River’s rhythm is just right for me, I’m just going with the flow
Floating freely, it’s a. . . perfect day
Got no worries getting. . . in my way
River’s taking me just. . . where it may
I let it carry me away, carry me away
