Recorded and mixed in Redwood City, CA in 2010 by Paul Fifield.

All instruments played by Paul Fifield except drums, which were generated in Band-In-A-Box. Vocals by Paul Fifield.

This song began as a chord progression where I just moved a chord up and down the neck in specific intervals, almost like a mathematical sequence. I loved the sequence but could never shoe-horn a lyrical concept into it. Nothing ever felt right. Everything felt forced. One day I came home from work and decided to just relax and let the song tell me what it was about. This was a good lesson for me. Let the music inform me of what the song is about. As I relaxed I immediately remembered an afternoon spent on a grassy hill on a perfect warm spring day with a friend back in, oh, 1968. We had dropped acid and were just hanging out enjoying the experience. I let myself become immersed in that memory and most of the lyrics came pouring out. But I still needed another verse. I shared the unfinished song in a songwriting class at California Coast Music Camp in 2007, and the teacher, Linda Waterfall, loved it. She pushed me to finish the lyrics and to play the song at the Student Concert that night. So I did. Sometimes I just need a little push. In 2010 I recorded it in my home studio and later my friend Joseph Fraizer offered to create a video around it. - Paul Fifield

Lift Me

Sunshine on a warm day, clouds float in the sky
I don’t care if time passes me by
Lie here in the tall grass, wildflowers abound
Warm breezes and my mind floats around

Lift me to the high places and twirl me all around
Gently float me back down to the ground
Again up where the light dances, I now see all around
Softly float me back down to the ground

Dreamlike are my thoughts now, soft edges and swirls
Half visions of mind-altering worlds
Drifting out of focus, thoughts float all around
I’m touching but not feeling the ground

Lift me to the high places and twirl me all around
Gently float me back down to the ground
Again up where the light dances, I now see all around
Softly float me back down to the ground

Sunshine on a warm day, clouds float in the sky
I don’t care if time passes me... by
