MIDI melody instrument: Paul Fifield
Recorded in Studio Vision Pro using synthesized sounds generated on a Roland MIDI keyboard in 1995. I selected patches (sounds) I liked and played the keyboard to produce the various instrument parts which got recorded into Studio Vision Pro. A lot of editing ensued after I played the parts. I'm not a keyboard player.
I had an app back in those days called Practica Musica. It's still around but I haven't used it since I wrote this song. But what I did with this song is I played random unknown chords on my Roland keyboard, just stuff I was making up, and the app would tell me what the chord was. I then went into Band-In-A-Box and typed in the chords, rearranging them into something pleasing to my ear using a jazz style combo. I then played imported those tracks into Studio Vision Pro and played around creating a melody, which I recorded in MIDI in Studio Vision Pro and edited the bejeebers out of it until I was pleased with the way it all came together. With MIDI you can view the notes as if on a piano roll and drag each note up, down, forward and backward, and lengthen, shorten, and adjust the volume. It's time consuming but the end result is worth it, especially if, like me, you're not a keyboard player- Paul Fifield
