This song started as an assignment in a Carol McComb songwriting class in 2009. The assignment was to write a song in a 1-6-4-5 format — that is, the dominant chord followed by the 6th chord of the harmonized major scale, then followed by the 4th and 5th chords of the harmonized major scale. The assignment was to do that for the verse section then do something different for the chorus section. The different thing I decided to do for the chorus section was to just switch up the same chords into a different order — 4-5-1-6 and it worked a treat. I liked the way the song felt in 3/4 time so I ran with it. As for the lyric inspiration, I was doing dishes one night, listening to the song in my head, and the notion of someone telling another person that they were way over their breakup rose up — I don’t recall what triggered it — but the story built from there. Pure fiction based upon assorted real life experiences. - Paul Fifield
Way Over You

Oh, you're flying free, and you tell everybody you see
That you're way over me
Well that may be true, but I don't think I'm way over you
You flitter around, you’re the talk of the town
You’re in love with the freedom you've found
But I'm feelin' blue, cause I don't think I'm way over you
Oh life is a delight in unfettered flight, every day wondrous and new
Here on the ground, old shadows abound
And I'm still not way over you
Well, I try every day, I start out with "I think I'm okay"
But I end up the same
I've got broken heart flu, 'cause I guess I'm not way over you.
Oh life is a delight in unfettered flight, every day wondrous and new
Here on the ground, old shadows abound
And I'm still not way over you
You said at the end, my heart won't take long 'til it mends
And we'll always be friends
Well I don’t think that’s true, 'cause I'll never be way over you
No, I don’t think that’s true, ‘cause I'll never be way over you
Sounds easy to do, but I’ll never be way over you
