The chord progression for this song came out of a Carol McComb songwriting assignment, which I can’t remember the gist of, but which got this song off the ground. I don’t recall what got me onto the concept of You Never Know, other than hearing that phrase so often in daily life. And I began to think about the fact that you can’t make changes in your life by sitting around and consuming, and that you literally have no idea what can become of the choices you make when you step out in vulnerability and take on the world, and that doors and windows can open up that you never dreamed of, just by taking action that has no obvious guaranteed outcome. You just never know. - Paul Fifield

You never know, you never know,
What might come to you, created by things you do
You never know, you never know,
Just by stepping out, you may learn what you're about

Your dreams could flower, you could feel the power
Lift your heart and soul above the ground
Allow your eyes to look around
And drop their scales, see beyond the veil
You'll be living large and living real, stepping out to seal the deal

You never know, you never know
What’s lyin’ ‘round the bend, maybe a new friend
You never know, you never know
Who will be your guides, walkin’ with you side by side

Your dreams could flower, you could feel the power
Lift your heart and soul above the ground
Allow your eyes to look around
And drop their scales, see beyond the veil
You'll be living large and living real, stepping out to seal the deal

         You’re gonna pay some dues
         You’re gonna get some blues
But if you open up your heart and let your light shine
You’re gonna find a way through those times

You never know, you never know
You might be enough, if you just trust your stuff
You never know, you never know, how the circles grow
Ripples running to and fro

Your dreams could flower, you could feel the power
Lift your heart and soul above the ground
Allow your eyes to look around
And drop their scales, see beyond the veil
You'll be living large and living real, stepping out to seal the deal

You never know, you never know, you never know…
